gb UK Cats Protection Lottery Review

UK Cat Protection Lottery ReviewThe majority of charity lotteries in existence today all focus on medical research, patient care, and ensuring that people who are suffering from ailments are taken care of. And, while we think that all these are fantastic for supporting the causes that they do, it is refreshing to come across a lottery that provides care for the little four-legged companions many of us have in our lives. In this Cats Protection Lottery review, we will look at a cause that makes sure that our furry friends are also cared for.

History

The lottery is run by Cats Protection—a charity organisation established in Kent, England. The organisation has been running for over 30 years and has made significant advances in reducing the number of stray and feral cats in the area. They started the Cats Protection lottery as a way of fundraising to support their efforts in ensuring that all cats in the area are well taken care of. The lottery has been running since 2017.

How to Play Cats Protection Lottery

Playing in this lottery is very simple because it does not function precisely as a lottery generally does. Instead, this lottery draw takes the form of a sweepstake or raffle. For £1 per week, you will be issued a unique lottery number by the operator. This number cannot be chosen by yourself and is randomly allocated by the lottery. It will also remain as your lottery number for the duration that you choose to play the lottery.

If you would like to contribute more to the cats—and would like to increase your chances of winning—you may choose to purchase additional numbers. Each extra number will cost an additional £1. Unfortunately, the amount of numbers that you may purchase is limited to five.

Your set of lucky numbers, as well as the numbers of all other players, is entered into a draw held each week. A total of 300 prizes are available each week and are spread over six prize tiers. Matching your number with a number drawn will win you a prize. This video provides a great overview of the game and the cause:

And, in addition to the weekly draws, the lottery also holds a Super Draw each quarter. These draws function in the same way as the weekly draws except that they offer much higher jackpots and allow for temporary lottery numbers—which will only be used for the super draw—to be purchased.

Odds of Winning

Unlike the set odds of conventional lotteries, there are no odds of winnings available for the Cats Protection Lottery. This is not surprising, however, as the odds rely on the number of tickets entered into each draw. This number fluctuates each week as more people purchase tickets, and as others cancel their subscriptions to the lottery.

The Super Draw jackpot for the Christmas and summer quarters is an excellent £25,000—substantially more than the general weekly jackpot. Meanwhile, the spring and autumn super draws offer jackpots of £10,000.

Drawing Time

Like most charity lotteries in the UK, the Cats Protection Lottery does not state what time of the day the draw takes place. The only thing that we can say for sure is that the draws take place on the Friday of each week. Draw results are posted on the official lottery website shortly after the draw has concluded and all winners will be notified by the lottery that they have won.

Since all the jackpot amounts are static, there is no real increase in the highest jackpot you can win—unless the lottery announces that they are raising the jackpot. This means that, at the time of this review, the largest jackpot ever paid out by the lottery has been the £25,000 that gets paid out during the Christmas and summer super draws.

Payout Options

Players have no option but to accept a lump sum payment if they are lucky enough to be a winner. This is no surprise considering the amounts on offer. However, what is a surprise is that winners will not even have to worry about claiming their winnings. Instead, the lottery will automatically issue cheques to all winners within 14 days from the date of the draw. These cheques will be delivered to the winners at the physical address that was specified upon registration. How nice it would be if all lotteries did this—expired and lost tickets would be a thing of the past!

Taxes

All lucky winners in the UK will fall under UK laws. We say that this is lucky because, in the UK, lottery winnings are exempt from tax. This means that they don’t need to worry about a large portion of their winnings disappearing before they ever receive them.

How to Play Cats Protection Lottery Online

The official website of the lottery does allow for online purchasing of tickets. The process is quick and simple enough that you can register in just a few minutes. The lottery only states that you need to be 18 years of age or older to play. But, while it does not mention any geographical restrictions, we assume that you need to be a resident of the UK in order to play due to the fact that all prizes are mailed.

Cats Protection Lottery – Is It Worth Playing?

As we said at the start of this review, we are really happy to see a charity lottery that is also focused on our furry friends rather than just humans—not that we don’t love and appreciate those lotteries as well. For this reason, and for the fact that the lottery is run using a great system, we highly recommend the Cats Protection Lottery. In fact, we recommend that you head on over to their website right now and purchase a ticket for the next draw—as long as you are located in the UK, of course.

As I love animals and especially cats, this is my go-to charity lottery to support. Love knowing that my money is going to such a good cause even if I don't win a prize... though I have won quite a few over the years, which si nice.
