Lottery Checker App Review
Applications that check your lottery tickets against the latest results are becoming more popular as people seek new ways to simplify this process. Lottery Checker is one of the apps that has emerged from this new trend. In this Lottery Checker Android app review, we will look at what the app can do and how well it actually achieves its purpose.
Stand-Out Feature
The name gives away the main purpose of Lottery Checker—to check your lottery tickets against winning results and to let you know if you are a winner. To do this, you will need to enter in your tickets so that Lottery Checker knows what numbers you have played. This is easily done by hitting Edit Tickets from the home screen and using the on-screen prompts to enter in your selected numbers.
Once you have saved your tickets you will be able to check them against the latest results from your favourite lottery. To do this, you will need to navigate to Check Numbers on the app home screen. Unfortunately, the app does not connect to any servers to automatically download the latest draw results. What this means is that you will have to manually enter in the draw results in the same manner that you entered in your ticket numbers—a cumbersome process that ends up being more of a headache than a useful tool.
Once you have completed entering in the latest draw results, the app will show you a list of all your entered tickets that have winnings attached to them. You can then use this information to make your claims on all winning tickets.
Additional Features
Lottery Checker does not offer many additional features. However, the features that are offered are worth more than a long list of features that are redundant. Features that are available in the app are:
- Syndicates: The syndicate feature allows you to select what syndicate you would like to store tickets under (there are six available syndicates). Each syndicate can store a maximum of 99 tickets each. This means that you can store a total of 594 individual tickets within the app. Each syndicate is also customizable from the settings menu. The customization options allow you to rename each syndicate to a name of your choice. You may also select an expiration date for any ticket group when editing syndicate options. This expiration date checks that the tickets have not already expired.
- Random Numbers: This feature is hidden within the app and can only be seen when entering in a new ticket number sequence. If you have not yet already purchased your lottery ticket and would like a random number sequence to use when purchasing it, the app can generate a random sequence for you. Simply navigate the app as though you are entering in a new ticket. Then, when it comes time for you to enter in the ticket numbers, simply select random. This will cause the app to automatically generate a random sequence of numbers for you. According to our tests, the randomization algorithm is relatively good and can be relied on.
- Help: This is something that we feel is generally missing from most applications. Lottery Checker features a small question mark symbol at the bottom of almost every screen. This symbol opens a help menu that relates to that screen and what you can do from it.
Location & Lotteries Available
Lottery Checker supports five international lotteries, and which one you would like to set the app to use can be done in the settings menu under Predefined Setup. The available supported lotteries are EuroMillions, UK Lotto, UK Thunderball, Mega Millions, and US Powerball.
User Interface & Usability
While the look and feel of Lottery Checker is not the worst that we have come across, it is also not the greatest. The app makes use of bright colours with dark text to ensure that there is a proper contrast when reading on the screen. The downside is that the design is overall slightly chunky and does not flow very well.
The app is also not very responsive and tends to take a few moments to realise that you have entered a command. This is true both when used normally and when forced to run in full-view mode—which it manages relatively easily. With all this considered, it is not very user-friendly and that is the main reason it does not place high on our best lottery apps list.
Ads
Surprisingly, the only time that you will encounter any ads when using the app is after you have selected to check your tickets against the latest results. On the results screen you will be greeted by a small banner ad that is located at the top of the screen.
Conclusion – Lottery Checker Review
Lottery Checker has a great concept that many other developers attempt to employ in their own applications. However, the app fails to reach its full potential due to the fact that the UI is non-responsive and slow, does not automatically download results, and overall does not look great. While it does score some points back for allowing you to store over 500 tickets, this is not enough to save Lottery Checker from ultimately being just an OK app.
